Operation of a line shaft driven conveyor
 
 
 
The rollers D are driven from an rotating, underlying, longitudinal shaft A.
Frictional powered drive-spools B run on a shaft A.
An elastic polyurethane drive belt C transfers the drive power from the longitudinal shaft A via the frictional drive-spool B to the roller D.
The roller D has a spring axle for easy mounting, and one or two grooves E for the polyurethane drive belt C to run in.
The conveyor systems shaft is also used for the drive of a number of other functions..
 

 
Characteristics
 

Drive unit:

The gear drive motor can be placed along the shaft with great flexibilty.
The gear belt transfers power from the motor to the shaft.
Advantages: It can be located with consideration to work stations, service needs, cables etc.
 
Longitudinal drive shaft:
The shaft drive can transfer large amounts of power over long distances.
Advantages: Very long conveyors powered from one drive unit.
The drive unit can be located according to the customer's wishes.
Several other drive operations can utilise the longitudinal shaft.
Normally fewer drive units are needed than in other types of conveyor systems.
 
Each roller is driven separately:
With separately driven rollers many positive effects are achieved.
Advantages: The propulsive force is influenced only marginally if a drive belt should snap.
Easy to repair in connection with servicing.
The tension between the roller and the drive belt gives a lower noise level than many other drive systems.
 
Friction driven accumulation:
The power requirement for propulsion of the drive spools is very low.
Drive belts can be taken off easily, and the direction of the roller rotation can be changed by twistng the belt the other way.
Advantages: Very low driving force for each drive belt.
The accumulation pressure or propulsive power can be adjusted easily.
